Vaibhavi Merchant is a well-known choreographer of Indian cinema. She was born in 1975 and had been exposed to classical Indian dance from a very young age. Her formal training began at the age of 5 under the guidance of Late Sushree Madhurita Sarang. Her teacher had learnt dance from Vaibhavi’s great grandfather who was a co-founder of the Jaipur Gharana, known as one of the primary homes of Kathak. During her formative years, Vaibhavi also received training in other forms such as Bharatnatyam and Western Classical dance. Vaibhavi Merchant is a household name today as she has appeared as a regular judge on several dance shows in national television
She has also won a national award for the choreography of “Dhole Baaje” from the movie “Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam”. She has also choreographed a dance number from the Oscar nominated movie.
