Tanushree Shankar is a groundbreaking artist from Kolkata. She was born on 26th March 1956 and her style is characterized by the grace of classical Indian dance styles and the expressions that are characteristic of Western ballet. A disciple of Amala Shankar, her individual journey in dance began in 2002 when Tanushree started her own dance company by the name Tanushree Shankar Dance Company. She is also a principal teacher at Ananda Shankar Centre for Performing Arts, an institute named after her husband Ananda Shankar who was a renowned composer with an equally refreshing artistic style. She has conducted classes at various workshops in New Delhi and also held master classes in international levels such as the Martha Graham School of Contemporary Dance in New York. Tanushree also boasts of a have choreographed at various international platforms of great importance such as the Wills World Cup Cricket Championships, the Asian Games, The Festival of India (held in the USSR) and many more. Even on national grounds she has choreographed for the Kolkata Karnival in 2002 and National Dance Festival of 2007 to name a few.
