Saroj Khan or Nirmala Kishanchand Sadhu Singh Nagpal was born on 22nd November 1948 to Kishanchand Sadhu Singh and Noni Sadhu Singh. This Indian choreographer’s family moved to the country after the Partition of 1947. Her daughter from this marriage, Sukaina Khan, looks after a dance centre in Dubai. Her first experience in the film industry was as a child artist in “Nazarana” when she was only three years of age. Saroj Khan also hosts her own dance class TV show and has been a judge on dance competitions that are aired on the television.In the 1950’s Saroj Khan worked as a background dancer in various movies. She began to train with B. Sohanlal and served as an assistant choreographer before beginning her career as an independent choreographer.
Most of Saroj Khan’s training was done under the guidance of dance master B. Sohanlal, who she married at the age of thirteen. She has two children from this marriage. She later married Sardar Roshan Khan, a marriage from which she got the name Saroj Khan
The rise of her career as a choreographer began with the hit choreography of Nagina’s “Main Tera Dushman”. Her career peaked in the late 80’s and early 90’s during which she worked with Bollywood superstars like Madhuri Dixit and Sridevi. She has won many national awards for best choreographies such as the Filmfare Awards and National Film Award
