Jerome Robbins

A renowned choreographer for ballets and a known director and choreographer in theaters,televisions and movies.He graduated from high school and then he started studying chemistry at New York University but had to drop out due to financial problems.He learned various dance styles such as ballet,Modern dance,Folk dance,Spanish dance.He was the recipient for the special award for his choreographic achievements on the film by the Academy Of Motion Picture Arts and Science.His Broadway credits include On the Town, Billion Dollar Baby, High Button Shoes, West Side Story, The King and I, Gypsy, Peter Pan, Miss Liberty,Call Me Madam, and Fiddler on the Roof.He won six Tony Awards with the best director for his last Broadway production in 1989 called Jerome Robbins’ Broadway.He created more than 60 ballets such as Fancy Free, Afternoon of a Faun,The Concert, Dances At a Gathering, In the Night, In G Major, Other Dances,Glass Pieces and Ives, Songs and many more 


  • Jerome Robbins shared the Academy Award for Best Director with Robert Wise for the film version of ‘West Side Story’ (1961). The same year, he was honored with a special award for his choreographic achievements on film by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences.
  • He was also the recipient of five Tony Awards including Tony Award for Best Choreography for the musical ‘West Side Story’ in 1957 and Tony Award for Best Direction of a Musical, and Best Choreography for ‘Fiddler on the Roof’ (1964).
