George M. Cohan

George M.Cohan was born on July 3,1878 and was professionally called as George M.Cohan .He was a playwright,entertainer,actor,singer ,producer and a dancer.He began his career as a child and gave his first performance with his parents and his sister in “The Four Cohans”.He wrote,composed and produces more than three dozen Broadway musicals .He published more than 300 songs including, Give My Regards to Broadway,The Yankee Doodle Boy,You’re a Grand Old Flag .He was known as “the man who owned Broadway”in the decade before World war I and is also referred as the father of American Musical Comedy.His life is reflected in the Academy Award winning film Yankee Doodle Dandy and in the 1968 musical George M !He has his statue in Times Square depicting his contribution to American Musical Theater.He received the Congressional Gold Medal by President Franklin Roosevelt in 1936  for his contribution to World War I for the song “You’re a Grand Old Flag” and ”Over there”.
