Ardah (Arab tribal war dance) Detail

Ardah (Arabic: ALA-LC: al-‘ar'ah) is considered to be the official dance of Saudi Arabia and expresses the victories in the wars fought by king Abdulaziz, who is the founder of Saudi Arabia.This dance was performed before battles and wars against the enemies to develop enthusiasm and devotion in the soldiers. This dance is now a way to express loyalty to the authorities when the lines of poem are repeated several times, while the drum beats in the background. Although the origin of Ardah is from the wars, it is now performed during festivals like Islamic Eid or at weddings. Saudi Ardah is a traditional annual festival and is attended by the royal family of Saudi Arabia and Its common people. The dance is performed by standing in two lines facing each other. Main Characteristics of Ardah include the beating of war drums, wielding of swords and recitation of poems. Also, a Najdi clothing known as “Qarmaliya” is worn for the Ardah.
